The Marshall County Council members looked at all of the funds within the 2025 budget when they met for their regular meeting this month.
The entire budget is estimated at $42,788,783. The General Fund budget is estimated at $16,354,260. The first reading of the budget was read and was unanimously accepted by the council.
The Marshall County Election Board submitted a budget that includes the replacement of voting machines in the amount of $283,200 while the commissioners have almost $3.3 million budgeted for self-funded medical insurance. The Plan Commission has $12,000 requested in its budget for legal services, an increase of $3,500 from the request in the 2024 budget, and $2,000 in the printing and advertising budget which is an increase of $1,250 in the 2024 budget. CASA state matching funds of $11,786 have been requested in the Circuit Court budget. The County Council has $318,783 budgeted for 2025 with $200,000 in Other Projects. Council President Jesse Bohannon said those funds would be used for public safety assistance or additional road program items.
Auditor Angie Birchmeier said cuts will come during the council’s September meeting and the amount that needs to be cut will be worked on when the Department of Local Government provides all of the rates and everything can be calculated.
The second reading of the budget, along with the public hearing, is scheduled for Thursday, September 12 at 9 a.m. ET with the budget adoption set for Thursday, October 10 at 9:30 a.m. ET.
