The Marshall County Commissioners reviewed an agreement for jail repairs when they met Monday, July 1 for their regular session meeting.
Jail Maintenance Director John Greer previously stated some exterior work is needed to address concrete wall cracks, and there are windows over the 911 Dispatch Center that were not installed properly causing issues. They will likely need to be removed or covered to solve problems.
The commissioners previously agreed to have representatives from Fabcon provide an assessment of work that needs to be done as the company originally installed the concrete panels at the jail. Greer presented the company’s findings Monday morning where he stated there is some cracking that needs to be addressed as stated in previous meetings. The horizontal cracks on the panels are the bigger worry.
There are some rust stains from the aggregate that was used which would be remediated as part of the project scope.
Greer pointed to the scope involving the removal and replacement of exterior panel-to-panel caulking, but it did not include panel-to-window or panel-to-door caulking which he stated needs to be included as part of the overall remediation. After talking with the company Monday morning, Greer said that the additional work would cost $46,257 which would bring the total project cost to $101,363.
Greer noted that the extra work was not provided in an official work agreement, but in an email. After some discussion, the commissioners passed a motion with a unanimous vote to approve the original project agreement cost of $55,106 with the extra $46,257 to be presented in an official document which will be formally approved by the commissioners during their next meeting Monday, July 15.
