Marshall County Commissioners Approve Bid for Second Phase of Owner-Occupied Housing Rehabilitation Projects

The Marshall County Commissioners approved a bid for the second phase of the Owner-Occupied Housing Rehabilitation Project when they met Monday, July 1.

Priority Project Resources Grant Writer Shannon McLeod previously told the commissioners that the projects are funded by the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority in the total amount of $500,000 with no local match. The work and bidding are taking place in phases.

The initial plan was to spend up to $25,000 on homes selected for updates based on specific needs.

As part of the program, a select number of homes will receive updates in various locations in Marshall County. The homes have occupants with disabilities, veterans, elderly, single female occupied with young children, and a family with young children.

The commissioners opened bids for the second phase of projects during their last meeting in June.

Brent Martin brought forward the request to the commissioners who unanimously approved the bid for the second phase of projects from Brown and Brown General Contractors in the total amount of $92,245.

Home 6 is located on Castle Drive in Plymouth, home 7 is located on Lake Avenue in Plymouth, home 8 is located on Sycamore Street in Plymouth and home 9 is located on West Randolph Street in LaPaz.

Martin explained to the commissioners that there is enough funding for three more homes in the third phase, and possibly four – depending on how the bids fall. Martin said the fourth home could be done if the commissioners would support funding for the last home, if the bids do not support up to $25,000 in funding for that project. The commissioners unanimously approved a motion to support funding, if needed, when the time comes for officials to analyze funding and bids for the third and final phase of the program.
