The Marshall County Commissioners discussed jail repairs when they met Monday morning.
In a previous meeting, the commissioners opened consulting proposals from Jones Petrie and Rafinski (JPR) and DLZ concerning the completion of assessments and design developments or plans for repairs, but County Attorney Jim Clevenger said proposed costs in the assessment and the process in general were not clear enough for the commissioners to move forward with any rehabilitative action.
Jail Maintenance Director John Greer previously stated some exterior work is needed to address concrete wall cracks, and there are windows over the 911 Dispatch Center that were not installed properly causing issues. They will likely need to be removed or covered to solve problems.
Both companies toured the jail.
A work session to speak with the engineering firms was scheduled for Monday afternoon, but was later vacated.
Commissioner Kevin Overmyer informed the commissioners Monday morning that he spoke with Andy from Fabcon, the company that originally dealt with the concrete walls at the jail. The company will send representatives to assess the concrete panels at a cost of $1,000. It will be after that assessment is done that there may be a more clear direction of what is needed when it comes to rehabilitative repairs and the commissioners can come to a conclusion on what firm to hire to move on with the process.
The commissioners unanimously approved the contract with Fabcon to do the assessment work.
