The Marshall County Commissioners previously authorized action to send out request for proposals from engineering firms or architects to provide a scope and specifications for necessary repairs at the Marshall County Correctional Facility.
Commission President Stan Klotz told MAX News that there are several structural issues that need to be addressed, including cracks in the structure that is creating water leaks, and other items that should be remedied to seal the outer perimeter of the building.
In a commissioners meeting in January, Jail Maintenance Director John Greer said Midwest Maintenance conducted a free inspection and it was recommended that a company be hired to provide a scope of repairs at the jail.
During the April 15 meeting, the commissioners opened consulting proposals from Jones Petrie and Rafinski (JPR) and DLZ. JPR submitted a quote of $69,525 while DLZ provided a quote of $14,522.50 for assessment repair and restoration, plus other fee bases.
The commissioners agreed to take the quotes under advisement and have Greer review them with a recommendation for approval at the next Marshall County Commissioners meeting Monday, May 6.
The commissioners previously addressed the purchase of three rooftop HVAC units at the jail which will take care of the laundry room, guard tower and the recreation room at a cost of $239,884 from Ideal Construction.
