Donnie Ritsema, Senior Community Developer Planner at MACOG, presented information surrounding the Culver2040 Comprehensive Plan during the Culver Town Council meeting Thursday, March 28.
The plan remains as a draft for the next couple of weeks, upon further comment from residents.
Ritsema explained that the process started with community engagement in 2022 and a survey to see what the residents would like to see in their community. It helped to identify values which include Culver as a destination, arts and culture, quality of place, quality of people, infrastructure, and business development and support.
Focus groups were then formed and those members went on to dive more into those values to produce goals.
The top priorities are to increase the number of quality town-wide events to make Culver a year-round destination; create a cultural art center; clean up blighted, underdeveloped, and underutilized properties; offer attractive and diverse housing choices and price points to support living choices for all stages of life; and increase support for entrepreneurs and local business owners.
There is a 120-page document to review. There is a copy at Culver Town Hall and at the Culver-Union Township Public Library, and it can be viewed online at www.culver2040.com.
There is still time to comment on the draft plan and those comments may be provided until April 11. There is a public comment form on the Culver2040 website or they can be provided to town officials to be presented to MACOG.
