Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety Approves Fire Tower Hydrant Agreement

The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety approved the agreement for Water Line Access as previously presented to and approved by the Marshall County Board of Commissioners.

Marshall County is a customer of the City of Plymouth’s water utility with service to the property located at 1400 Pioneer Drive where the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, the Marshall County Jail, and the Wayne Smith Training Facility are all located.

The City of Plymouth will install a fire hydrant at the training facility and connect to the County’s existing water line on the property.

Marshall County authorized the City of Plymouth to install the hydrant on the property in the vicinity of the fire training facility, and further authorized the installation of all necessary water lines and equipment to provide water service to the fire hydrant and to connect those lines to the existing service lines on the property.

The City of Plymouth will incur all expenses for installation, maintenance and operation of the fire hydrant and the water lines serving the fire hydrant. The City of Plymouth will also install a separate water meter to monitor water usage for the fire hydrant and Marshall County shall not be charged for any water usage of the fire hydrant. The installation of the fire hydrant and water usage will not interfere with the County’s water usage; especially any fire suppression system operated by the County on the property.

The fire hydrant is made possible through grant funding obtained by Plymouth Fire Chief Steve Holm. Discussions with Utilities Superintendent Donnie Davidson confirmed that it would make more sense to tap in to the existing line at the jail rather than run a new service line. The fire hydrant will be used to enhance training opportunities for first responders at the Wayne Smith Training Facility.
