Marshall County Election Board Holds Campaign Finance Public Hearing

The Marshall County Election Board members held a campaign finance report hearing Monday, March 4 to address a late campaign finance report submitted by Gary Schue.

Marshall County Clerk Jenny Bennitt said the deadline to submit campaign finance reports was January 17, 2024 at noon ET and Schue filed his campaign finance report via email January 23, 2024.

The Election Board held a hearing February 16 to address late finance reports, but Schue was out of the country and asked to schedule his hearing at a later date. The hearing was scheduled for Monday, March 4, however Schue was not present at the hearing. He submitted a response that he would not be able to attend the hearing due to his full-time job.

He further stated that he ran for Argos Town Council and did not feel the need to have a campaign or receive donations. He commented in the response read aloud by Clerk Jenny Bennitt that he forgot to file the report as required.

Board member Susie Kreighbaum made a motion to fine Schue $50 for his tardy campaign finance report. The motion was seconded by Jon VanVactor, a proxy for newly-appointed Republican board member Steve Harper who was unable to attend, and it was approved by all members, which also includes Bennitt by virtue of her office.

Former Marshall County Election Board member Adam Lukenbill resigned from the board March 1.
