Marshall County Election Board Holds Hearings on Delinquent Campaign Finance Reports

The Marshall County Election Board met Friday, February 16 where they discussed delinquent campaign finance reports.

They agreed to waive a delinquent report submitted by Dana Neer. He sent his report through the mail and it was postmarked January 11, but it didn’t arrive in the Clerk’s Office until January 18 – one day after the deadline of January 17. It was noted that inclement weather was occurring that time which delayed the mail service so they agreed to waive the penalty in this case.

They fined Nichole Walter $25 for her delinquent report. Walter communicated in an email with the Clerk’s Office that her report got caught up in an email draft. The report was received January 19. She was on the ballot in 2022 and had no finances to report, but still had to file a report as indicated on her paperwork. She filed amended paperwork to close her campaign so future reporting is not needed unless she files to run in a future campaign.

The board members agreed to waive penalties against Brandon Richie who was two hours late in personally handing in his report to election officials.

The Friends of Culver Community School Corporation was fined $50. The PAC has a history of being tardy in filing reports, but the person in charge has changed so often that the procedure appeared to be unclear to those responsible for reporting the finances. Because of the confusion, the board agreed to the fine of $50, although the report was not submitted until February 8.

The board tabled a hearing for Gary Schue as he had a conflict with the hearing date of Friday, February 16.
