John Weir Sworn in as City of Plymouth Police Chief

A swearing in ceremony was held Thursday morning to welcome the new City of Plymouth Police Chief John Weir.

Plymouth Clerk-Treasurer Lynn Gorski administered the oath of office to Weir who was then joined by his family after completing the oath.

Weir takes over from David Bacon who is retiring after working 30 years in law enforcement with 11 of those years as chief. Plymouth Mayor Robert Listenberger thanked Bacon on behalf of the mayor’s office, Plymouth City Council and the City of Plymouth for his many years of honorable service to the City of Plymouth and to the law enforcement community.

In a previous report, Plymouth Mayor Robert Listenberger says Weir has displayed exemplary service as a Plymouth Police Officer since 1999. Before becoming a police officer, Weir joined the Army Reserve in 1988, where he earned multiple military awards. Weir served in Operation Desert Shield – Storm in 1990 and 1991.

Weir is a member of Plymouth F.O.P. and has served as its vice president since 2005. From 2000 to 2005, he was a member of the Plymouth Volunteer Fire Department.

Weir was congratulated by officials of the City of Plymouth, FOP President Herschel Hunter, and community members following the ceremony.
