The Culver Town Council took action to approve an attorney contract during their meeting Thursday, February 8, but with different counsel.
The council approved a contract with Sean Surrisi at a rate of $250 an hour plus a retainer fee. However, Culver Town Manager Kevin Danti said outgoing counsel, Jim Clevenger, will be staying in touch to continue to guide the town through The Dunes housing project legal process.
The bond closing for The Dunes project was postponed from February 6. Culver Equities ensured the town that they are still committed to the project. Danti explained that the developer contacted the town and asked to delay the signing until after the project was approved by the Technical Review Committee as well as the Planning Commission. This process includes Culver Equities requesting approval for a major subdivision as well as approval for structure setbacks and utility plans.
In other news, the council members agreed to reduce charges to Miller’s Merry Manor for false fire alarm calls. Danti said the Culver-Union Township Fire Department responded to 12 false alarm calls in about three months which totaled about $5,000 in penalties. They explained that two incidents involved patients causing the alarm and the other instances were technical. They asked for forgiveness for those issues. The council agreed to reduce the fees to $3,000 and suggested that the facility update maintenance on its systems.
Danti added that Janette Surrisi will be reviewing the town’s zoning ordinances and will provide an update for possible revisions when she finishes the review.
