Marshall County Commissioners Approve Bid for Owner-Occupied Housing Rehabilitation Projects

The Marshall County Commissioners approved a bid for owner-occupied housing rehabilitation projects during their meeting Monday morning.

Priority Project Resources Grant Writer Shannon McLeod previously told the commissioners that the project is funded by the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority in the amount of $500,000 with no local match.

Homes have been selected to receive updates in various locations in Marshall County.  The homes have occupants with disabilities, veterans, elderly, single female occupied with young children, and a family with young children.

Up to $25,000 will be spent on each of the homes selected.

For the first phase of the project, bids were submitted for six homes selected.  Many of the homes will receive furnace updates, plumbing, exterior work, and ADA-compliant updates.

Project architect Brent Martin opened the single bid packet submitted by Brown and Brown Construction of Wakarusa during the last meeting which was unanimously approved by the commissioners Monday morning with the exception of home #5 in Plymouth.  Martin explained that the bid for that home was for a furnace and duct work and the subcontractor did not submit a bid in time so there was no bid.  He said that home will be included in the next phase of projects.

The bid for home #1 was approved at $23,520, home #2 was approved at $19,495, home #3 was approved for $25,000, home #4 was approved for $22,700, and home #6 was approved for $24,875.  The homes are located in Plymouth, Bremen Argos, and Bourbon.

The bids will also be subject to approval by the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) which is in charge of the funding.

Martin noted that the county does not have any funding into this project.  It is 100 percent funded by the IHCDA.
