Bids were opened Monday morning during the Marshall County Commissioners meeting for an owner-occupied housing rehabilitation project.
Priority Project Resources Grant Writer Shannon McLeod previously told the commissioners that the project is funded by the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority in the amount of $500,000 with no local match.
Fourteen homes have been selected to receive updates in various locations in Marshall County. The homes have occupants with disabilities, veterans, elderly, single female occupied with young children, and a family with young children.
Up to $25,000 will be spent on each of the homes selected.
For the first phase of the project, bids were submitted for six homes selected. Many of the homes will receive furnace updates, plumbing, exterior work, and ADA-compliant updates.
Project architect Brent Martin opened the single bid packet submitted by Brown and Brown Construction of Wakarusa. He noted that the base bid was for the priority project at that particular home with alternates submitted for other work. Details on each base bid and alternate bid were not specified when read aloud.

The sixth bid was for a home in Plymouth with no base bid as the base bid was for a door project that has already been completed. Alternate #1 $3,900; Alternate #2 $2,400; Alternate #3 $2,100; Alternate #4 $24,875.
The commissioners agreed to take the bids under advisement. Martin will provide a recommendation for the commissioners in a future meeting.
