The Marshall County Commissioners reviewed a request from WIC Coordinator Ashley Derf to apply for the WIC Fiscal Year 2024 grant.
Derf said the grant request is for $260,901.61. She noted that the funding comes from the USDA and then it goes to the Indiana Department of Health and then it is distributed to the county for operations.
The commissioners unanimously approved a motion to accept the request to apply for the grant.
In other business, the commissioners considered an appointment to the Culver-Union Township Public Library Board. Culver-Union Township Library Board Secretary Marty Oosterbaan said that the commissioners have a vacancy to fill on the library board. He stated that their previous representative, Mary Banfield, submitted her resignation September 12 and cited personal health reasons.
Jan Fitterling provided a letter of interest to the commissioners as a possible candidate to fill the vacancy. Oosterbaan noted that Fitterling is a retired teacher and active volunteer in the community and would be a welcomed addition to the board.
The commissioners unanimously approved a motion to accept the letter of resignation of Mary Banfield. They then unanimously approved a motion to appoint Jan Fitterling to be the commissioner’s new representative on the Culver-Union Township Library Board effective Monday, October 16, 2023 through the end of 2025.
