The Culver Town Council members considered a request from the Council on Churches to purchase a freezer and shelves for the Culver Community Pantry.
A representative asked for additional funding to purchase additional freezer space and shelving space. Since 2018, there has been a 119 percent increase in clients that utilize the pantry. Officials at the pantry recently had to turn down 350 pounds of chicken as there was inadequate space to store the product in the freezer.
They believe the addition of the freezer and shelving would be a benefit to the community.
The cost of the freezer is $2,840 and the cost of the shelving is $3,732 for a total cost of $6,572.
The council approved the request with a unanimous vote.
