Marshall County Council to Hold Public Hearing on Budget Thursday, September 14

The Marshall County Council members will hold a public hearing Thursday, September 14 regarding the proposed 2024 budget.

According to the Notice to Taxpayers listing on the Indiana Gateway website, of the major funds, the General Fund is advertised at about $16.1 million, the Highway Department Fund at $5.5 million, Local Road and Street at $857,000, the Cumulative Bridge Fund at $2 million, the Health Fund at $699,000, the Cumulative Capital Development Fund at $950,000, Local Public Health Services at $570,000, and the LIT Special Purpose Fund at $6.3 million. 

The total of all funds in the budget was advertised at about $37.2 million.  The council plans to trim about $700,000 from the budget to make sure the county is within spending limits.  Councilman Tim Harman commented during a recent Budget and Finance Committee meeting that he has several cuts totaling $1 million that will be presented to the council members for consideration during the meeting Thursday. 

The public hearing is set to begin at 9 a.m. ET in the second floor meeting room (Room 203) in the Marshall County Building at 112 W. Jefferson Street in Plymouth.
