Plymouth Police Chief Gives Update to Board of Public Works and Safety

A Plymouth Police Department patrolman will be sworn in as an assistant police chief Monday, August 21.

Mayor Mark Senter made the announcement Monday night during the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety meeting.  Mark Emenhiser will be filling that role, in addition to work as one of two D.A.R.E. officers on staff.

Beyond that, Plymouth Police Chief David Bacon asked for the board’s approval to hire two more police officers which would bring the police department up to full strength at 25 officers.

Conditional offers of employment will be made to two officers as approved by the board members Monday night.

Board member Jeff Houin asked if an officer has been identified as an additional School Resource Officer for the Plymouth Community School Corporation.  Chief Bacon indicated that the selection is not likely to happen until the second semester of school due to manpower on the street.  There will be training requirements for that position as well.

In under a year, nine officers have been hired at the Plymouth Police Department.  Chief Bacon commended the board members and his staff for putting in time and input in the hiring process.
