Plymouth Board of Aviation Commissioners Discuss Hangar Door Project

The Plymouth Board of Aviation Commissioners talked about the ongoing project of replacing the hangar door on Hangar B at the airport during their meeting Tuesday.

Mark Shillington reported to the board that the cost of the project would be reimbursable under a current grant from the FAA.

The cost for the replacement of a beam and the hangar door would be just over $33,000 with Strebig Construction doing the work.

Shillington said the project needed confirmation of where the steel used by Strebig came from as federal regulations require that steel used in projects with federal grants be made in America. If Chinese steel was used, it would require a waiver from the government.

Another issue was to be sure that the procurement process was acceptable. The bid request for the project brought two bids but one of the contractors retracted their bid leaving just one contractor.

Shillington said that Strebig was planning on starting the project on September 18 and would be completed on October 13.

The mechanical parts, like the motor for the door, would be retained looking toward a similar project on Hangar A in the future, since they could be reusable for them.
