John Glenn School Board Approves Bid for Building Projects

The John Glenn School Board took action during their last meeting to approve a bid for upcoming building projects.

Superintendent Christopher Winchell said it was recommended that the bid be awarded to Gibson-Lewis, LLC as they provided the lowest responsible base bid and alternate bids.

The base bid was $5,737,500 with the eight alternate bids coming in at $1,402,100.  Winchell said the bids came in well under the estimated bid tabulated by Barton Coe Vilamaa.

The base bid involves classroom work with door replacements, the addition of insulation in the walls in the Unit A Wing, other door replacements, canopy redesign, office staff bathroom reconfiguration, locker room work, and heating and cooling upgrades at Walkerton Elementary School.  At North Liberty Elementary School, classroom doors and frames will be replaced.

The alternate bids included new cabinetry, ADA restrooms in six classrooms, new carpeting throughout, new ceilings, and new paint at Walkerton Elementary School, and new railing at the gym balcony at North Liberty Elementary School.

To complete all of these updates, the school is utilizing $10 million in lease rental bonds to pay for the projects.
