The Marshall County Commissioners took action Monday morning to hire a new Emergency Management Agency (EMA) director.
Commissioner Kevin Overmyer said all of the applicants brought something different to the table, but of the two candidates that were brought back for a second round of interviews, he made a motion to hire Jack Garner as the next EMA director. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Michael Burroughs who thanked all of the applicants that showed interest in the position.
The motion was approved unanimously.
Garner commented that he just graduated from Purdue University with a degree in agricultural communication, but is ready for this job.
“I feel like I have the skills and the passion needed to really do some work with this position,” said Garner. “I look forward to building more relationships with our schools, with local businesses, developing more hazardous mitigation plans – just really excited to get to work. Thank you for the opportunity.”
Garner’s first day will be Wednesday, July 5 and he will have his first meeting with the Department of Homeland Security July 11.
