The Marshall County Commissioners unanimously approved a motion to send a favorable recommendation to the Marshall County Council at their next meeting to support the Fund the Essentials 2 initiative with $150,000 in American Rescue Plan Act funds.
Marshall County United Way Development Manager Brian Teall and Marshall County Community Foundation and United Way Executive Director Linda Yoder presented information to the commissioners concerning information included in a meeting with the American Rescue Plan Act Committee who considered the funding. The committee members agreed to recommend that $150,000 be used toward the initiative, with the whole of the funding to focus on food assistance.
Yoder assured the commissioners that the funding would go toward food pantries and other partners that provide assistance to the food pantries. The funding will go to the grants committee whose members will determine where and when the funds will be distributed. The funding will be spent by June 30, 2024, and there will be no administrative fees assessed in the effort. A full report will be given to the commissioners and the council members after all funds are spent.
Teall said that this will help the United Way capture a $75,000 matching grant to go toward assisting Marshall County residents during this time of need.
The council members will consider the additional appropriation during their August meeting.
