Bremen Town Council Receives Update on Jackson Street Project

Jackson Street before work started

The Bremen Town Council members were updated on the Jackson Street project when they met this week.

The Town of Bremen was awarded Stellar grant funds for several projects including the Jackson Street project which involves an outdoor pavilion, stage area, a lot of greenspace, new trees, benches, and lighting to create a downtown community gathering area.

The entire cost that includes the alternate bids totals $1,303,700 and work will be done by Brown and Brown General Contractors.

Director of Operations Keith Fraine told the town council members this week that he met with the engineers and the contractors where he found that as contractors were getting into the project and breaking up asphalt and concrete, footers were found from an old Sunoco station that was once operating in the area.  Fraine said the project stopped at that point to review costs of removal.  It’ll be about $7,500 for removal.

Additionally, they worked with the bank at the corner of Jackson Street and Plymouth Street to make the ATM area as a temporary turn around spot for workers and patrons as long as Jackson Street is closed.
