Culver Utility Superintendent to Look into Grant for Electric Vehicles

Culver Utility Superintendent Bob Porter asked the Culver Town Council last week if he could apply for a grant to add another electric vehicle charging station.

Porter said MACOG reached out to him concerning a grant available for the project.  The town’s cost would be $13,000 which would come from the Street Department budget.  He said this charging station would go in the park’s parking lot, about mid-way by the meter.

The council asked for a better breakdown of what the statistics are for the existing charging station and look more into the grant.  Porter said he will have more information for the council.

Residents attending the meeting asked about the need for another charging station.  Porter talked about the frequency usage where a lot of people are utilizing the town’s current charging stations on Jefferson Street just east of Main Street.  An additional charging station would accommodate more users.

Porter will provide more information before the council makes a decision on the grant request.

Meanwhile, an ordinance that will regulate the fees for use of the charging station will be considered by the Culver Town Council in a future meeting.
