Bremen Town Council Holds Public Hearing on Pool Project

Bremen Aquatic Center project

The Bremen Town Council opened a public hearing last week concerning the proposed pool project.

Bremen Director of Operations Trend Weldy explained that the public hearing was necessary as the project will be using Community Development Block Grant funds from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs and local match money to fund the project.

He noted that the Park Department surveyed the Bremen community to work ideas into a design with The Troyer Group.

The project scope entails the removal of the existing lap pool and toddler pool and equipment and the construction of a large splash pad area with various sprayers, buckets and slides. Where the toddler pool is located it will become a swimming pool with a zero-depth entry and a gradual slope to a five-foot depth.  Shaded seating areas will be installed, along with an artificial turf lawn play area with shade, and a perimeter safety fence.  The existing building facility will be renovated to undergo interior updates and to make it ADA compliant.

The estimated project cost is $3.16 million.  The grant amount to be requested will be $1.485 million.  That grant deadline is May 31. The grant money is earmarked for the project through the Marshall County Crossroads Regional Stellar designation.  The remaining funds will come from the town through TIF funds in the amount of $1,081,000, American Rescue Plan Act funds of $400,000, and Park Department funds of $194,400.

One person asked about diving boards and Weldy confirmed that there will be no diving boards.

With that, the public hearing was closed.

It is the hope that the project will get underway this fall with the pool opening for the 2024 season.
