Culver Community School Board Approves Purchase of Boiler

The Culver Community School Board approved the purchase of a new boiler for the Culver Middle/High School.

Superintendent Karen Shuman explained that a boiler was made available by DA Dodd.  Another school corporation had rejected the unit because it had been sitting outside awaiting installation. Shuman noted that units under the same condition were purchased by the John Glenn School Corporation and they have been working without issue for the past six months.

Shuman said the school board could purchase this boiler at 60 percent of the regular cost.  DA Dodd guaranteed the unit and all warranties are still in place.  This boiler would replace a large boiler in the High School that has not been properly functioning for the past three years and was on the list for replacement.

The two smaller boilers in current operation would be used as backup units once this new boiler is installed.  The replacement would not affect school operations if it were to be done during the regular school day.

The school board approved the purchase of the new boiler at a cost of $89,400 with a unanimous vote.  The purchase will be made from bond money available for construction projects this summer.
