Sheriff Discusses Vehicle Purchases with Marshall County Commissioners

Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel discussed vehicle purchases with the Marshall County Commissioners Monday morning.

He said there is an issue with an order placed in August with Oliver Ford for a 2023 model. He said he ordered a 2023 model to replace a squad car totaled in an accident.  He said the 2023 model ordered is no longer in production and the order would not be filled. There is not a schedule for the 2024 models.

On top of that, Sheriff Hassel would like to order another vehicle to replace another squad car that was totaled as a result of an accident.

He said he talked with Auto Park in order to resolve the issue.

“They said they are still producing 2023 Durangos,” said Sheriff Hassel.  “Their quote price for one is $42,704. I would like permission to order two Durangos and hopefully we can get them.  They said production could end at any minute without any warning.  We’re two vehicles down now and we really need to replace those if we can get them replaced.”

The insurance company paid almost $50,000 for both vehicles, but Sheriff Hassel said an additional appropriation would need to be considered by the Marshall County Council.

The commissioners approved the purchase of the vehicles pending the support of the council.
