Marshall County Sheriff’s Department Investigates Attempted Car Theft Call

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department recently investigated a complaint of an attempted car theft from a Marshall County resident who owns property in the 20,000 block of U.S. 6. The investigation resulted in an arrest.

Unknown person(s) gained entry into a vehicle on the property and reportedly attempted to hot wire the vehicle.  Police say surveillance cameras on the property caught the suspects in the act and using modern technology the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department obtained images of the suspect’s vehicle.  With that information, a lead was developed which produced a suspect.

Detectives with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department went to an address in Portage, Indiana Tuesday, March 21 where the alleged suspect vehicle was located.  The suspect, 49-year-old Michael S. Perez, was then taken into custody and transported to the Marshall County Jail. Perez faces a preliminary charge of attempted auto theft.

Suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
