The Marshall County Council members heard from Chancellor Joe Heidt from Marian University’s Ancilla College last week concerning funding a READI grant match for a simulation and skills lab to support a nursing degree at the college to address a shortage in nurses.
In a presentation in August 2022 on the matter, he stated that not only is it to address a shortage in nurses, but it also serves an interest in terms of demand for students that are aspiring toward a myriad of healthcare careers.
During last week’s council meeting, Chancellor Heidt explained that the initial review eliminated colleges and universities from consideration, but were asked to submit a joint proposal. He said that was accomplished and the proposal was successful.
With the changes in the proposal, Heidt said the grant match request has been adjusted.
Heidt commented, “You might recall we requested a match of $180,000. That has been adjusted by 95 percent so it’s down to $10,000.”
The original request for the grant match was out of the American Rescue Plan Act funds.
The council voted unanimously to support the request. An additional appropriation on the action will be considered in an upcoming council meeting.
