The Marshall County Commissioners are currently accepting applications from residents for five seats on the Marshall County Regional Sewer District Board. They will be reviewing those applications and interviewing trustees soon.
The Marshall County Commissioners will appoint five people to the board, with the Marshall County Council with one appointment and the City of Plymouth has one appointment. All members would serve on staggered terms.
Ken Jones from engineering firm Jones Petrie and Rafinski previously explained to the commissioners that the seven members serve on a volunteer basis and the trustees that work best are customers of the proposed projects. He said they tend to make it the best for all involved as they are a customer as well.
Jones noted that there is a significant amount of work involved in a sewer district. The members initially must make a mission statement, develop procedures, and schedule monthly meetings with a consistent location so the public can conveniently attend the meetings. The board could meet more than once a month, depending on the timing of a particular project. They must also prioritize projects that have been set forth in the petition.
The board will need to come up with a detailed plan for the first project with IDEM by September of this year.
