The Marshall County Commissioners heard from Marcella Hopple, Director of Business Affairs at Marian University’s Ancilla College last week concerning a commitment letter for the READI Grant fund match previously approved by the Marshall County Council for a simulation and skills lab to support a nursing degree at the college to address a shortage in nurses.
In a presentation in August 2022 on the matter, Chancellor Joe Heidt stated that not only is it to address a shortage in nurses, but it also serves an interest in terms of demand for students that are aspiring toward a myriad of healthcare careers.
Chancellor Heidt explained to the Marshall County Council members this month that the initial review eliminated colleges and universities from consideration, but were asked to submit a joint proposal. He said that was accomplished and the proposal was successful.
With the changes in the proposal, Heidt said the grant match request has been adjusted from $180,000 to $10,000.
The original request for the grant match was out of the American Rescue Plan Act funds.
The council voted unanimously to support the request. The Marshall County Commissioners voted to provide the letter necessary that supports the funding in the amount of $10,000 from the county’s General Fund. The commissioner’s American Rescue Plan Act funding plan will be modified to make that change.
