Marshall County Highway Superintendent Presents Proposed Community Crossings Projects to Commissioners, Council

Marshall County Highway Department Superintendent Jason Peters presented proposed Community Crossings projects to the Marshall County Commissioners and Marshall County Council members during their respective meetings.

The Indiana Department of Transportation recently opened the first round of Community Crossings Matching Grant fund applications which are due January 27.

Peters proposed submitting Plymouth-Goshen Trail between city limits to U.S. 30 as an 80/20 funded project through Community Crossings, as well as 10B from State Road 17 to the Marshall County Line and Queen Road from U.S. 30 to 6th Road.

The total estimated cost would be about $1,623,000 with the state funding $1 million of the project, if awarded, with the county’s match at $623,000.

The Marshall County Council supported funding for the projects and the Marshall County Commissioners approved the projects for the application.

Both government entities were presented with a five-mile additional paving project on 9th Road from Pioneer to Union with an estimated cost of $1,226,000.  The additional paving projects are typically submitted to contractors along with the Community Crossings projects to get a better deal when it comes to bidding out the projects at the same time.   Councilman Tim Harman wanted to discuss that project a little further in a Highway Department subcommittee meeting to get more particular information into the costs of that project.
