The Marshall County Commissioners took action Tuesday morning to affirm the re-appropriation of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to the Marshall County Highway Department.
Auditor Angie Birchmeier pointed out that $584,536.24 was appropriated in 2022 but it was not spent in 2022 so it needed to be re-appropriated to be spent in 2023. Birchmeier said there was confusion concerning that and asked for the reaffirmation.
The ARPA funds were about $489,000 for Highway Material, just over $10,000 in Highway Professional Services and nearly $85,000 in Highway Equipment.
Commissioner Kevin Overmyer stated that in December he signed that re-appropriation paperwork acting as commission president in 2022 along with Highway Department Superintendent Jason Peters so costs could be covered.
The commissioners approved the re-appropriation with a unanimous vote.
The Marshall County Council is anticipated to affirm the re-appropriation Thursday afternoon.
Additionally, the Marshall County Commissioners affirmed the re-appropriation of ARPA funds in the amount of $29,134.58 for the second installment of payments to Vermillion Systems toward a security system at the Marshall-Starke Development Center. It will be paid upon the completion of the project.
