The Argos Town Council held its first meeting of the new year on Wednesday night. Council Member Charles Randy Snead introduced the audience to a fresh face on the council, Council Member Ed Barcus. There were two council seats on the ballot last year. The other seat was won by incumbent Council Member Erica Partin.
The council’s first order of business was to hold nominations for council officers. Council Member Shawn Harley motioned to nominate Snead for council president. Partin seconded the motion. The vote to have Snead serve as president for 2023 was unanimous.
Partin motioned to nominate Harley for council vice president. Council Member Gary Schue seconded the motion. The vote to have Harley serve as vice president for 2023 was unanimous.
The council then unanimously voted to appoint Derek Jones as the town’s attorney.
One face that was missing on the council was George Null. Null spent the last 16 years serving on the town council, but decided against running for a 17th year.
That didn’t stop Null from attending Wednesday night’s meeting. Null wasn’t facing the audience that night, he was part of the audience. During the citizen’s input portion, he congratulated Barcus and Partin.
Council Member Harley responded by thanking Null for his service to the council. “George has been a mainstay in town government for a long time. A long time. I want to thank him for leaving us something on well good footing.” “It wasn’t just me, it was everybody,” George replied.
