PLYMOUTH — The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety (BPWS) heard an update from City of Plymouth Attorney Sean Surrisi which included the Dedication of Commerce Street from the Plymouth Industrial Development Corporation (PIDCO).
Surrisi said, “This is something that we’ve been talking about for the past several years. That street was not fully developed when that whole subdivision was built out there. That street was not dedicated to the City at that time. During the negotiations with Pretzels Incorporated during their second expansion a couple of years ago, there was discussions about PIDCO, in order to help win that project – we were competing with another site in Kansas at the time – there was an agreement that PIDCO would donate some additional land to the transaction. In exchange there was a commitment by the Mayor that eventually we would accept dedication of Commerce Street and move forward with finishing that out.”
He added that PIDCO has had the survey work done to identify the roadway. Surrisi offered to answer any questions and requested that the board accept the dedication of Commerce Street.
PBPWS member Jeff Houin asked how the project will be funded.
According to Surrisi, VS Engineering is working on a design for Commerce St. The Plymouth Redevelopment Commission has added Commerce St. to their project list for TIF District 3 to pay for reconstruction. Engineering was funded through reprioritizing money in the 2022 Street Department Budget that was intended to use for a Community Crossings Project that could not be completed.
The board accepted the Dedication of Commerce Street.
In other news, Surrisi informed the board of the continued 2023 Animal Control Services Agreement with the Marshall County Humane Society (MCHS). “This agreement is the same as it has been for a number of years.” The agreement pays $30,000 to MCHS for their services.
