The Marshall County Election Board continued a hearing Thursday morning to make a determination concerning several complaints filed by Nicole Haskins in regards to campaign finance reports filed by Stan Klotz.
The complaints focused on a $3,000 contribution and its timely reporting, improper co-mingling of funds and false statements. There were also several errors on the reports.
The board members had asked Klotz and Attorney Sean Surrisi to produce bank statements of a Klotz for Commissioner Committee to ensure that a co-mingling of funds issue had been resolved. Those documents were provided in a timely fashion and the board members found no other violations.
It was confirmed that the bank account was opened February 18, 2022. The board had questioned that in a previous meeting.
Additionally, the complaint concerning a $3,000 donation from the Better Government Hears People (BGHP) PAC was discussed. The check was not deposited until October 17, several months after the PAC was dissolved. In the previous hearing, Surrisi noted that Klotz received an envelope from the PAC in July and set it aside and later opened it revealing the $3,000 check. He said Klotz was unsure whether or not to accept it. He eventually accepted the check and reported it as he deposited it on October 17.
After the board members looked at state statute regarding the time frame in receiving the donation and when it was deposited, the board did not find any violations.
All errors have been corrected with amended paperwork filed, as determined by the board, and did not believe any civil penalties should be issued.
With that, the issues were resolved.
