Bremen Town Council Approves American Rescue Plan Act Spending Plan

The Bremen Town Council discussed an American Rescue Plan Act spending plan when they recently met.

The Town of Bremen was awarded a total of $1,012,018.03 in American Rescue Plan Act funds.  All money has been received and placed in appropriate funds in the budget.

There are preliminary expenditures in the plan, but the plan can be changed as needs are addressed. The council has until the end of 2024 to obligate the funds and until the end of 2026 to spend the funds.

In the plan, it has proposed purchases of police department and fire department radios and a police department vehicle, paving the parking lot across the street from the police department, and other building needs.  There was match money included in the plan for Blue Zones if it was awarded READI grant funds.

Bremen Town Council President Michael Leman commented that plans for the new aquatic center have produced estimated costs and there is a shortfall of about $800,000 for what the public wants in a proposed aquatic center.  Director of Operations Trend Weldy and Clerk-Treasurer Janet Anglemyer said about $475,000 of the funds have not been earmarked for specific purchases and could be used for the project that was awarded Regional Stellar Communities funding.  Leman said deadlines could push the use of American Rescue Plan Act Funds toward the project.  That would leave about $400,000 to be raised for the project, but no formal decisions have been made concerning the funding for the proposed aquatic center.

The spending plan was approved as presented with a unanimous vote.
