Plymouth Municipal Airport Manager Bill Sheley was recently honored at an Aviation Indiana Conference.

He received the President’s Special Recognition Award for his efforts as manager of the airport.  Aviation Indiana President Brian Payne stated that Sheley was instrumental in starting a Career and Technical Education (CTE) program at the airport which focuses on providing dual credits to 40 students each year. A second year class was also instituted which has 10 students in the district.

In January of this year, Payne said Sheley was asked to chair a new Aviation Indiana committee focused on the advancement of aviation education in this state. Sheley has worked with other airports across the state bringing new students into the aviation world.

Additionally, Payne mentioned that Sheley was selected by one of his students in 2022 as her most inspirational teacher and was honored at a banquet held by Culver Community Schools.

The airport has flourished under Sheley’s direction which launched the facility to the status of  Airport of the Year by Aviation Indiana in 2019.

Sheley was recognized for his award during Monday night’s Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety meeting.
