Several Marshall County Projects Receive READI Funding

Five Marshall County projects received a portion of an available $50 million in Regional Economic Acceleration and Development Initiative (READI) grant funding.  The grant awards were announced by the South Bend-Elkhart Regional Development Authority on Monday.

About $40 million will fund 19 Quality of Place projects, while $7 million will be set aside for programmatic funding.

Marshall County projects to receive funding include Bremen Sunnyside Park improvements for almost $83,000, Culver South Main Street Housing project for $1.3 million, Harrison Street trail project in Plymouth for $144,000, the Marshall County Career Innovation Center for $1.75 million, and Water Street townhomes in Plymouth for $520,000.

Launched by Gov. Holcomb and led by the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC), READI encourages regional collaboration and data-driven, long-term planning that will attract and retain talent in Indiana. The $500 million READI fund was passed by legislation during the 2021 session and was divided among 17 regions. The IEDC awarded the maximum grant amount of $50 million each to five of the regions, including the South Bend – Elkhart region. Awards for the other regions ranged from $5 million to 30 million.
