John Glenn School Board to Soon Consider General Obligation Bond for Upcoming Projects

The John Glenn School Board will hold a public hearing Tuesday, September 20 regarding the proposed General Obligation Bond that would support the proposed renovation of and improvements to school facilities, site improvements and the purchase of equipment, buses and technology.

Superintendent Christopher Winchell explained that certain debt is being paid off which opens up room in the tax rate to take out a General Obligation bond from $1 million to $1.8 million to fund larger projects without an increase in taxes.

Winchell stated, “For this particular chunk of money, it’s our anticipation to use this for anticipated roofing projects.  It was mentioned about our STEM and High Ability program – we’re also trying to improve some of our equipment in the Advanced Manufacturing programs so some of these monies are going to go to our student programming improvements. It’s also going to tackle some large HVAC units that were not part of the scope at North Liberty, and we also anticipate using a little bit of the funds toward our buses.”

The school board unanimously approved the publication of the public hearing notice.  The public hearing on Tuesday, September 20 will begin in 7 p.m. ET at the John Glenn Administration Building at 101 John Glenn Drive in Walkerton.
