The John Glenn School Board reviewed a request to purchase three 78-passenger school buses from Midwest Transit during their last meeting.
Superintendent Christopher Winchell explained that buses were ordered last year as part of the Bus Replacement Plan and they have not yet arrived, but are anticipated to arrive in December of this year or January. This current purchase was presented to the board a little earlier than usual to get the order in now as the lead time for delivery of these buses would not be until December 2023 or January 2024.
Transportation Director Will Groves said the window is closing to order buses and offers will not be taken for 2023 after October 1. Another price increase is expected at the end of the month, but the price the board would consider would be locked in for this particular purchase.
Four buses would be replaced when the buses eventually arrive.
The board unanimously approved the purchase in the amount of $422,181.
