President and CEO of Marshall County Economic Development Corporation (MCEDC) Laura Walls provided the quarterly update to members of the Plymouth Common Council during the regular meeting Monday.

The first round of READI (Regional Economic Acceleration & Development Initiative) Grant applications were submitted on time. According to Walls, MCEDC contributed $10,000 in fees to the Troyer Group.

Divert has successfully moved in to the new manufacturing center providing 55 new jobs and over $4M in investment to Marshall County in Phase I.

Walls reported an increased interest in retail and restaurants in Plymouth.

Construction has begun at the new Plymouth Industrial Development Corporation (PIDCO) / Holladay Properties building. Plymouth Molding Group and Renew by Anderson will be the first tenants.

Walls reported that in June 2022 Marshall County was at a 2.6% unemployment rate in comparison to the State of Indiana at 3.2%, and the United States at 3.8%. Only 22 other counties have a lower unemployment rate than Marshall County. She added that 25,000 jobs are currently open in the region in healthcare and manufacturing sectors. She noted the critical need to provide training to Marshall County’s workforce to fill that need.

Current Workforce Development Projects include the Career Innovation Center and Ancilla Marian College Nursing Lab.

Other projects for MCEDC include Strategic Planning with PIDCO and Strategic Site Initiative (SSI) with State and Utility Partners.
