Make plans to beat the heat this week.
Today (Wednesday) will be the hottest day of the week with temperatures between 89 and 95 degrees and heat indicies approaching 104 degrees in locations.
A heat advisory is in effect from noon to 8 p.m. ET.
Emergency Management Agency officials urge residents to drink plenty of water and take frequent breaks if outdoor work is necessary. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible. Check on family, friends and neighbors who do not have air conditioning and who spend a lot of time alone. Frequently check on animals to ensure they are not suffering. Provide adequate shelter and water.
In addition to the heat, rain and thunderstorms will develop by Wednesday afternoon with an incoming cool front and some storms could become strong to possibly severe Wednesday afternoon and evening. Chances of rain and thunderstorms will remain through Thursday.
