Two Fatal Accidents Investigated by Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, Coroner

Three people died in two separate car accidents in Marshall County Tuesday, July 12.

Marshall County Coroner John Grolich was notified of a single vehicle accident at 8:30 p.m. ET that claimed the lives of two people. A small vehicle driven by 31-year-old Kristopher M. Riddle of South Bend was traveling at a high rate of speed on 5th Road when it crossed the Union Road intersection, went airborne, left the roadway, lost control, and struck a large tree, according to the report.

Riddle and a passenger, 32-year-old Angela R. Riddle of South Bend, were reportedly not wearing seatbelts and died as a result of injuries in the crash. 

The crash remains under investigation by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and the Marshall County Coroner’s Office.  The agencies were assisted at the scene by the Polk Township Fire Department, Walkerton EMS, and Knepp Towing Service.

During the investigation of this accident, Coroner Grolich was notified of another fatal accident just before 10 p.m. ET.  The driver of a motorcycle, 32-year-old Neil Holderman of LaPaz, was traveling south on Michigan Road near 3A Road and was struck head-on by a passenger vehicle driven by 21-year-old Ian Nelson of LaPorte, according to the report.  Holderman was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Grolich. He said Holderman was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and the Marshall County Coroner’s Office.  The Indiana State Police and an accident reconstructionist assisted at the scene, along with the LaPaz Fire Department, Union-North EMS, and Reichert and Knepp Towing Service, and Chief Deputy Coroner Les Trump.
