Marshall County Older Adult Services Director Janis Jeffirs Holiday recently asked the commissioners for help in funding for services.
She explained that the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center terminated a contract with Older Adult Services after 22 years.
“It was to transport radiation patients to their site,” stated Holiday. “That’s about a $40,000 contract every year. At the same time, our fuel prices are going up and our repair costs are going up and we’re trying really hard to keep our rates the same as they have been for several years.”
Holiday requested $50,000 in American Rescue Plan Act funds for that contract revenue loss, and $50,000 from the commissioner’s budget to meet grant requirements for 2023.
Despite the contract termination, the organization continues to transport radiation patients in their time of need.
The commissioners unanimously approved the request. The request will go before the county council in a future meeting.
