Marshall County Sheriff’s Department Reports COVID-19 at Jail

Efforts are underway to address COVID-19 at the Marshall County Jail.

Sheriff Matt Hassel told the Marshall County Commissioners about the situation Monday morning.

“Nobody is showing any symptoms, but we’ve had individuals test positive and they are all quarantined,” said Sheriff Hassel. “We have been in communication with the Indiana State Health Department and I requested the nurse from QCC update our local health department today.”

Sheriff Hassel said the positive cases were in two different cell blocks.

Additionally, Sheriff Hassel put forth a request to the commissioners about getting quotes on a new vehicle for the Sheriff’s Department following a recent accident.

“A 2018 Ford Explorer Interceptor was traveling on Fir Road when a motorist ran the stop sign at 7th.  The vehicle has been totaled out.”

The commissioners unanimously gave Sheriff Hassel permission to seek quotes for a new vehicle.

He commented that it may be long process to order a new vehicle as three cars were ordered in December and the county has not yet received them.
