Bremen Town Council to Hold Public Hearing on Water Rates

The Bremen Town Council members will hold a public hearing Monday, June 13 on an ordinance regarding the proposed changes to water rates and charges to take effect July 1, 2022.

Clerk-Treasurer Janet Anglemyer explained that the ordinance reviews the increase in charges plus the repeal of the Utility Receipts Tax which adjusts the second phase increase in water rates.

The first 3,000 gallons used is currently $4.89 and it will increase to $5.35 July 1. The next 4,000 gallons used would go from $4.38 to $4.80.

The minimum charge per month for an average residential 5/8” – 3/4” meter would go from $14.70 to $16.05.  Average residential fire protection services will increase from $5.15 to $5.65 and sprinkling rates will also go up July 1.

After-hour service charges for non-emergencies including Saturdays will be $70 minimum for the first two hours and an additional $35 per hour per employee after that.  The rate for Sundays and holidays will be $90 minimum for the first two hours and $45 per hour per employee after that.

The council members approved the first reading of the ordinance last week. The public hearing will be held June 13 at 4:30 p.m. ET at Bremen Town Hall.
