Bremen Town Council Holds Second Public Hearing on Jackson Street Project

The Bremen Town Council opened a public hearing Monday night to take additional comments on the upcoming Jackson Street project through the Marshall County Crossroads Stellar Communities Designation Initiative.

Grant writer Shannon McLeod from Priority Project Resources presented a review of the project.

“We are going to put an outdoor pavilion in the area where you can host Farmer’s Markets,” explained McLeod.  “There’s going to be a stage area where you can have music events, there will be a lot of greenspace, lots of new trees, benches, lighting, and hoping that it’ll be kind of a downtown gathering area.”

The total budget for the project is $1,388,000.  The grant request is for $1,157,000 with the town matching $195,000 in eligible matching funds and $36,000 in ineligible perishable matching funds that deal with landscaping.

McLoed said she is finishing the income survey process. Once that is completed and certified at the beginning of June, she said the grant application will be submitted to the Office of Community and Rural Affairs.  Once funds are awarded, the bidding process can start. The project is anticipated to begin in spring 2023.

There were no other public comments during the public hearing.
