Marshall County Sheriff Discusses Courthouse Security with Marshall County Council

Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel told the Marshall County Council members last week that he is reevaluating the courthouse security staff since the opening of the fourth court and since COVID restrictions have been lifted.

He said a couple of situations have occurred and would like to be better prepared with making the current security staff full-time.

Hassel commented, “Could we move both court security officers in the Courthouse up to a 40 hour work week?  They would not leave the building for lunch.  They would eat their lunch in the building.  That way we maintain two security officers in the Courthouse at all times.  Right now they are at a 35 hour work week.”

Hassel said the figures on how much more that would cost could be presented in a future meeting.

It was suggested that the security officer at the Marshall County Building also be moved to 40 hours to keep things uniform.

No decisions were made during the meeting.  If changes are adopted, the salary ordinance would need to be amended, along with an additional appropriation to adjust the pay.
