Argos Parks Board President Ed Barcus updated the Argos Town Council on an agreement entered with Argos Community Schools.

“We entered into an agreement with the high school this year, with the school corporation, to utilize the north ball diamond for their high school softball season this year. With that, the school paid us a fee to utilize the field,” said Barcus.

He went on to say that they are in the process of moving back the outfield to make the infield a bit larger and move the baselines out. “They’ll still be the same distance,” said Barcus.

New scoreboards for each ball diamond have been ordered. For the north diamond, fence screening has been ordered as well. Barcus told the council that the screening was ordered to allow the school to charge an admission fee.

“They’re going to utilize the north concession stand for their concession stand, restroom facilities,” he added.

Barcus also stated that, as of Wednesday, March 16, they began removing the fence around the old softball diamond. “The fence was all broken down and it was actually pretty bad looking field. So, on our part, we wanted to work with the school to give them a little nicer field and a little something they can have a little bit of pride in as far as hosting games and tournaments and things that they need to in the future.”

Moving onto Foker Park, Barcus told the council that they’re working on planning for the official dedication. He said they were hopeful to hold it during the first week of April.
