A Marshall County K9 is set to retire.
Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel asked the commissioners Monday morning to consider a request from the K9 handler.
“We have had Iroc in service since 2018,” explained Hassel. “Iroc is now six years old. The officer is requesting to retire him. The normal life expectancy is between seven and eight so he’s right there. The officer would like to keep the animal as a pet upon his retirement.”
It was noted that one K9 officer made the same request in the past and it was approved.
The commissioners approved Monday’s request with a unanimous vote.
Sheriff Hassel told MAX 98.3 FM news that there are no plans at this time to replace Iroc. He noted K9 Diesel continues to work hard for the county.
